One is the seafront promenade, with the town beside you and the bay in front. The other is the southern coves, on the road to Montjoi and Cap de Creus, where the beach restaurants sit right on the sand and some are quicker to reach by boat than by car. This guide keeps them apart, because you don&#8217;t choose a long Sunday lunch the same way you choose a midday stop while you&#8217;re out sailing.<\/p>\n<h2>The ones right on the beach<\/h2>\n<p>If what you want is to sit down with the sea in front of you, these are the ones that genuinely deliver:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Chiringuito La Pelosa<\/strong> \u2014 Pelosa cove, next to Montjoi<\/li>\n<li><strong>Santa Ll\u00facia<\/strong> \u2014 Almadrava beach<\/li>\n<li><strong>El Mirador de l&#8217;Almadrava<\/strong> \u2014 on Almadrava beach itself<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pika Pika Beach<\/strong> \u2014 Canyelles Petites<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vivaz Mar<\/strong>, <strong>Las Palmeras<\/strong> and <strong>ROM<\/strong> \u2014 passeig Mar\u00edtim, on the Roses seafront<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sodemar<\/strong> \u2014 marina, with the boats moored right in front<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Chiringuito La Pelosa<\/h2>\n<p>It sits in Pelosa cove, the small inlet next to Montjoi, and it&#8217;s the one that best handles a full day at the beach: Mediterranean cooking, rice dishes and seafood from the bay of Roses. It&#8217;s one of the most reviewed places in the whole area, and for a cove you don&#8217;t reach by accident, that says something.<\/p>\n<p>What sets it apart if you arrive by sea is the <strong>water taxi<\/strong>: you drop anchor, they pick you up and run you ashore. They also do catering on board, so you can eat on the boat without getting off. In August, expect the cove to be full by midday.<\/p>\n<h2>Santa Ll\u00facia<\/h2>\n<p>On Almadrava beach, about 5 km from the centre of Roses along the Montjoi road. Mediterranean cooking, a wide terrace facing the sea and live music in season. They also run apartments in the same cove, so the place is alive all summer, not just at lunchtime.<\/p>\n<p>A useful detail if you&#8217;re arriving on your own boat: they <strong>rent mooring buoys<\/strong>, which is exactly what&#8217;s usually missing when you want to stop for lunch in a cove.<\/p>\n<h2>El Mirador de l&#8217;Almadrava<\/h2>\n<p>On the same beach as the previous one, with a terrace angled so it works as well at midday as it does at sunset. The menu runs to rice dishes and fish, and the cocktails have a good name. It&#8217;s the classic place where you eat slowly and end up walking down to the water afterwards.<\/p>\n<h2>Pika Pika Beach<\/h2>\n<p>At Canyelles Petites, one of the easiest beaches in Roses. Seafood and Mediterranean cooking with the cove in front of you. It&#8217;s the most expensive on this list, so go knowing that: it isn&#8217;t a quick stop, it&#8217;s a proper meal.<\/p>\n<h2>Sodemar<\/h2>\n<p>Inside the Roses marina, in the units facing the moorings. Seafood and rice house: rice dishes, lobster stew, oysters and fresh fish from the market, which is two streets away. There&#8217;s a terrace facing the boats and two dining rooms with panoramic views over the bay.<\/p>\n<p>Open at lunchtime and in the evening during the week, with continuous service on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It&#8217;s the most harbour-like of them all: if you&#8217;ve spent the morning on the water and want to eat properly without changing first, this is the one.<\/p>\n<h2>Vivaz Mar, Las Palmeras and ROM<\/h2>\n<p>All three are on passeig Mar\u00edtim, along the stretch of the promenade that faces the bay, and they solve lunch by the sea without leaving town. Las Palmeras is the oldest and the busiest; Vivaz Mar is the best rated of the three; ROM is a few doors further along, on the same side. All three fill up in August, so book if you&#8217;re a group.<\/p>\n<h2>La Tagliatella<\/h2>\n<p>On the passeig Mar\u00edtim in Santa Margarida, over in the resort area. Italian with a long menu: oven-baked pizza, pasta and desserts. It isn&#8217;t local cooking and it doesn&#8217;t have the sea at its feet like the others, but it&#8217;s the safe choice with children, or when not everyone in the group wants fish.<\/p>\n<h2>Which ones can you reach by boat?<\/h2>\n<p>This is the part almost nobody tells you. The coves south of Roses \u2014 Montjoi, Pelosa, Almadrava, Canyelles \u2014 are linked by a narrow, winding road that gets busy in summer, and parking at midday is a lottery. By sea you get there faster, and the anchorage is the best table in the place.<\/p>\n<p>Of the ones on this list, <strong>La Pelosa<\/strong> will collect you with its water taxi and <strong>Santa Ll\u00facia<\/strong> rents buoys so you can leave the boat moored while you eat. For <strong>El Mirador<\/strong> and <strong>Pika Pika Beach<\/strong>, you anchor off the beach.<\/p>\n<p>If that&#8217;s your kind of day \u2014 out in the morning, anchor in a cove, lunch with the boat in front of you and back in the afternoon \u2014 Boats Mediterrani has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boatsmediterrani.com\/en\/boat-rental-roses\/\">boat rental in Roses<\/a>, with and without a licence.
